THE BLUE MOUNTAINS BOTANIC GARDEN MOUNT TOMAH
Celebrating our 30th Birthday, the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden is located under 2-hours’ drive from Sydney & is home to some 21,000 species. It is the only Botanic Garden located in a World Heritage Area and is focused on the conservation of cool climate plants.

Our educational, cultural and artistic events including exhibitions and workshops are set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Garden, reflecting the stunning surrounds.

PLANTS WITH BITE! CARNIVOROUS PLANT FAIR

Visit our ever-popular annual Carnivorous Plant Fair to learn how these intriguing plants feed on ‘meat’. Come to the Visitor Centre’s carnivorous plant emporium to view the display and purchase your very own carnivorous plants to take home! Join our senior horticulturists for a plant workshop or a guided tour of our Bog Garden. Free entry.

 

BOG GARDEN BASH – GUIDED WALK WITH SENIOR HORTICULTURIST MAT MURRAY

Meet at the front of the Visitor Centre

Join Senior Horticulturist Mat Murray on a guided tour of the Bog Garden at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden as he describes our collection and discusses the relevance of the Bog in the Garden and its place in carnivorous plant conservation. Cost: $20 per person. Bookings essential 

 

NERD ALERT – NERD ALERT – KIDS CARNIVOUROUS FUN!

Saturdays 2 & 9 December

Waratah Education Centre

1pm – 3pm

Led by one of the Garden’s enthusiastic and knowledgeable educators, kids will go on a fun adventure to the Bog Garden to find out how carnivorous plants lure and eat their prey! They’ll play games, make craft and plant their own little pet carnie to take home and feed flies. Cost: $20 per child. Suitable 8-12 years. Bookings essential

 

CARNIVOUROUS CONSIDERATIONS - WORKSHOP & TALK WITH SENIOR HORTICULTURIST DAMIEN VELLA

Join Senior Horticulturist Damien Vella for a carnivorous plants workshop. Damien will describe the genus of carnivorous plants, discuss local and global threats and provide tips on growing and propagating, finishing with a tour of the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Bog Garden. HABITAT– AN EXHIBITION BY ANNETTE MINCHIN

From her studio on the edgeof Lake Menindee, Annette Minchin witnesses the fragility of the landscape with dead river red gums providing refuge for wildlife: reptiles, birds and insects. In Habitat, Annette explores the intricacy of the landscape using gouache on paper, found materials hand sewn onto rice paper, artist books with digital prints on acrylic sheet, recycled papers and rice papers. Free entry.

THE BUZZ ON NATIVE BEES

Join Megan Halcroft PhD to learn about bees and how they drive biodiversity and support food security. While most bees live solitary lives and don’t store honey, they are the world’s most efficient flower pollinators. They are beautiful, diverse and fascinating to watch with about 200 species of native bees calling Sydney and the surrounding regions home. Learn how to encourage many bee species into the garden by conserving or providing nesting habitat. $25 per person. Bookings essential
