Wunderkammer

Everglades Historic House & Gardens will provoke and challenge environmental change by opening its closet to a secret stash of exotic animals in June.

The Wunderkammer exhibition of ethically-sourced taxidermied animals by artist Rod McRae will be displayed at the Leura landmark from June 10th to 27 August, 11am to 3pm daily.

Ephemeral Threads - 1st 15th July and 19th August

The Woodford Academy is very proud to present ‘Ephemeral Threads’ a collaborative sensory and tactile exhibition by Academy ‘Artist in Residence’ floral artist Edith Pass & Blue Mountains photographer Jennifer Leahy for our upcoming open days on Saturday 1, 15 July & 19 August. The exhibition explores floral installation weavings that incorporate botanical and photographic materials. Edith’s visceral investigations touch on the subject of commemoration, giving tribute to the post colonial / Victorian women of the Blue Mountains. Jennifer’s photography explores ideas of historical decay embellished with remnant traces of grandeur.

Yvonne Jenkins Memorial Award Presentation

Ian Jack, a prominent historian at the University of Sydney, will be the guest speaker at the presentation of the 2017 Yvonne Jenkins Memorial Award. The Award is held annually to honour Yvonne Jenkins, convenor of the inaugural meeting of the Lithgow & District Family History Society in 1986. Yvonne, well known as a local artist, family and local historian and an author in her own right, encouraged the Society’s members to write the stories of their families and many were published in the Society’s journals over the years.

Garden After Dark Spotlight Tour

Visit the Garden after hours! We’ll start with a short, entertaining talk on the nocturnal animals of the Blue Mountains. Then, as darkness falls, we’ll go on a prowl of the Garden, using “bat detectors” to help find micro-bats, and red-light torches to spot other nocturnal animals.

Gadara Wildflowers Farm Open Day

This local plantation has around 1,000 waratah plants including the unusual white waratah and is only open to visitors for one day during the Wild About Waratahs Festival. Access to the plantation is by a relatively steep rough track so is not suitable for people with mobility issues.
